Dr. Etienne Sibille is the Scientific Director of Neurobiology of Depression and Aging and the Campbell Chair at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
He obtained his PhD and postdoctoral training at Cornell and Columbia universities in New York, USA. Prior to moving to CAMH, he was a tenured associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh, USA.
Areas of research
Dr. Sibille is a neuroscientist and neuropharmacologist with expertise in rodent modeling and human postmortem investigations of neuropsychiatric disorders. His group has provided key evidence in support of the neurotrophic and GABAergic hypotheses for depression and other brain disorders. He has also demonstrated that the molecular changes that occur in the brain during depression are related to brain aging and age-related disorders. His group is developing novel therapeutics for treating cognitive symptoms and underlying cell deficits in depression and age-related disorders.
Dr. Sibille’s lab uses large-scale genomic, molecular and bioinformatic approaches combined with genetic and environmental mouse models to investigate causal links between the identified pathologies, mood regulatory mechanisms and cognitive processes.
Publications
Dr. Sibille has published over 150 Papers and reviews (available on PubMed).
